Ryde offer a wide selection of entertaining parks. Lane Cove National Park feature many hiking paths for all the outdoor types, as well as boat rides along the river and picnic areas under the trees. For the kids, spend the day at Yamble Reserve, which includes an adventure park, charming artwork and sheltered picnic tables for you to host a BBQ. If you wish for more wide-open spaces to kick a ball around, head to Lions Park for large ovals, playgrounds and picnic areas. During the warmer months, you and the family can cool off at Blaxland Riverside Park. Get soaked in the water play facilities, frolic in the adventure playground or take a stroll along the river.
Brush Farm House
For a bit of history, visit the Brush Farm House, one of Australia’s oldest country homes. One of the remaining properties from the Macquarie era, Brush Farm House was built in 1820 by Gregory Blaxland, leader of the first successful crossing of the Blue Mountains. Take part in one of the guided walks of Brush Farm Park and House, where you can learn more about Gregory Blaxland and walk under the shady trees. Brush Farm House also hosts numerous art exhibitions during the year featuring many local artists.
Shopping and Dining
The Ryde area is rich in shopping and dining options. Empty your pockets at Top Ryde City, which features a wide selection of shops that will satisfy everyone. If you need a break from shopping, Top Ryde City has many dining options, as well as entertainment venues including laser tag, a cinema complex and play zones. Eastwood is famous for their delicious selection of Asian cuisine. The only problem you’ll have is picking which one to dine at! For a fresh food, drinks and local entertainment, head on over to the Parramatta Farmers Market, which runs every Friday from 8:30am to 2:30pm.
For the Kids
The kids won’t be bored during your stay. For a railroad adventure, ride mini trains at the Sydney Live Steam Locomotive Society. Splish and splash at the Ryde Aquatic Leisure Centre, where your child can slide down the Giant Slide and bounce up and down in the wave pool. For something a little chillier, go ice skating at the Macquarie Ice Rink, suitable for all ages and skill levels. To see who’s best in the family, bowl a strike at Strike Bowling, which also features karaoke and laser tag.
